With Achieve3000, both educators and students engage in a truly blended learning experience – one that leverages innovative technology to extend teachers’ reach and empower students to spend more time on task for content-area literacy.

The new education law entitled “Every Student Succeeds” includes new, yearly grant monies totaling billions of dollars for blended learning.  For the first time, the US Department of Education has defined “blended learning”, and put money behind the initiative.  In this detailed session, Kevin Baird (Chairman, non-profit Center for College & Career Readiness) leads us through the critical alignment activities for schools to ensure an effective blended learning approach which aligns to billions in new federal funding.

“All students deserve a great teacher, not by chance, but by design.” John Hattie’s research – over 800 meta-studies on learning and achievement, involving more than 800 million students – has transformed education. Join Dr. Nancy Frey, Professor of Educational Leadership at San Diego State University and co-author of the new book Visible Learning for Literacy, as she delves into how Hattie’s findings apply to literacy instruction and how educators can implement the practices that work best to accelerate student learning. Topics will include the surface, deep, and transfer phases of learning; the activities and routines that are most effective at different phases of learning; and eight key mind frames for teachers and how they apply to curriculum planning. Educators will come away with a deeper understanding of how they can use effect size to determine – and maximize – their impact on student learning.

Rigorous Reading: Building Strength and Stamina

Performance on any high-stakes measure of reading — whether it be a state-level summative assessment, a college entrance examination, or instructions for rescuing a computer hard drive — requires both reading strength and reading stamina. For students, these skills don’t just appear suddenly. Rather, they are attributes that have to be built and reinforced over time.
Dr. Douglas Fisher will lead an exploration of the types of learning that ensure students become better readers who persevere through complex (strength) or long (stamina) texts while thinking critically about what the author is saying.

How to Reach the Hard to Teach: Excellent Instruction for Those Who Need It Most

For every teacher, it’s different, but you know who they are for you – the students who are “hard to teach.” Maybe they’re reading far below grade level. Maybe they’re English learners. Maybe they have diagnosed learning disabilities or behavioral issues. Maybe they’re underachieving for reasons that are unknown. They have been overlooked, underserved, or frustrated, and they’re not learning as they should. Until now. Until you.

In this webinar, Doug Fisher will present a thoughtful and practical approach to achieving breakthrough success with linguistically and culturally diverse students who struggle in school. Combining elements of the SIOP® Model and the FIT Teaching® approach, Doug will share how he and his fellow authors Jana Echevarría and Nancy Frey have taken stock of what we know about excellent instruction and distilled it into five guiding principles. Based on their book, How to Reach the Hard to Teach: Excellent Instruction for Those Who Need It Most,
